Hydrocolloid Blend works by thickening the drilling fluid, suspending solids, reducing fluid loss, and providing rheological stability under a wide range of conditions. It is especially valued in low-solids, environmentally friendly, and high-salinity drilling mud systems.

Designed to mimic the viscosity and suspension characteristics of API-grade xanthan gum, that offers a cost-effective alternative without compromising fluid performance in demanding down hole conditions.

Hydrocolloid Blend works best:

  • In drilling fluids (muds), especially in water-based
  • On high salinity (NaCl, KCl, CaCl₂ brines) and divalent ions, making it useful in brine-based mud systems
  • Performs well in cold environments, where synthetic polymers often fail
  • Preferred for offshore, near aquifers, geothermal drilling

Advantages:

  • Highly effective at increasing viscosity at very low concentrations.
  • Preventing pack-off, stuck pipe, and uneven density distribution.
  • Helps build a thin, low-permeability filter cake on the wellbore wall. (reducing fluid loss)

  • Helps in cuttings suspension when circulation stops and allows easier pumping when circulation resumes.
  • Even at low shear rates (when fluid flow is minimal), maintains enough gel strength to keep solids from settling at the bottom of the well.
